StepOver PDF-PlugIn

The StepOver PDF Plugin enables the user to sign Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader documents, and to provide SAP Interactive Forms with a personal electronic signature.

Due to its integration in SAP Interactive Forms, from now on SAP users can sign electronically in a seamless, secure way. The costly feedback of signed paper documents is completely unnecessary with the electronic scan system. Since SAP Interactive Forms are based on Adobe technology, and Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat products are used as viewers, users of exclusive Adobe resolutions also enjoy the advantages of the StepOver PDF PlugIn. In this way, the StepOver PDF PlugIn can also be applied outside SAP for signing PDFs in Adobe Acrobat or in systems with Adobe LiveCycle Forms (the former Adobe Form Server).

Easy integration and automation:

Signature fields can also be applied easily and rapidly by means of the Adobe Life Cycle Designer in XFA forms without programming efforts. Through other invisible form fields in the document, optional control parameters can be assigned to the plug-in in order to automate the signature process and adjust the presetting. Domain signatures are also supported. The support for symmetric and asymmetric encryption (up to 4096 bit RSA) makes the StepOver PDF PlugIn suitable for systems with "simple" and "advanced e-signature".

Perfect integration into Citrix terminal server environments:

Due to the optionally available StepOver Citrix Clients (for MS Windows Clients), the StepOver PDF PlugIn can also be perfectly integrated into a Citrix Terminal Server solution, in which the signature pad is connected to the client computer, whereas the software runs on the Citrix server. Communication between the server application and the local signature pad runs through the Citrix session that is already available. This way, additional client identification and port releases are no longer required.

For the validation of an electronically signed document, there are six key aspects:

• The quality of the acquired signature (the signer’s identification mark).
• The secure transmission of the signature and its secure storage in the document (the signature can never be copied or used in any other way).
• The inseparable combination of the identification mark (the signature) with the content of the document, the way it was at the moment of signing (i.e. later document modifications should render the signature invalid).
• The self-protection (in the legal sense) of the company implementing this system should be guaranteed, i.e. the system of the company and/or its employees should not be able to decipher the biometric data of the signature or extract it from the document to insert it into another. Otherwise, it cannot be proved that the signer really signed this document on the basis of this evidence (analogous to paper).
• The use of revision-safe document formats such as PDF(a) or TIFF in order to secure that the electronic document can be opened and read for many years.
• A technology- and manufacturer-independent verifiability of the identification mark (i.e. the signature). This is necessary on the one hand to be able to present comprehensible and credible evidence in court and on the other hand to have the security that the documents signed electronically today can also be used in the far future.

To fulfil these requirements, you need both secure software and a corresponding secure, high-quality signature pad.

• The StepOver pad driver for communication with the signature pads from the StepOver product family.
• Optionally, Tablet PCs are supported in the StepOver PDF PlugIn Tablet PC edition enabling direct on-screen signing.
• Optionally, graphics tablets and pen pads by other manufacturers are also supported in the StepOver PDF PlugIn with Wintab/Tablet PC extension.

In the "Basic"-variants (StepOver PDF-Plugin Basic etc.), the StepOver PDF PlugIn can only create symmetric e-signatures and, therefore, it is only suitable for the setup of "simple" e-signature systems. In the "Asym" variants (StepOver PDF-Plugin Asym etc.), both symmetric and asymmetric encryptions are supported. Therefore, with the "Asym" variants, systems for "simple" and "advanced" e-signature can be setup. The products with "Standard" ending (e.g. StepOver PDF-Plugin Asym Standard) only support signature pads of StepOver GmbH as acquisition devices. Products with "Tablet PC" ending also support Tablet PCs, whereas "Wintab/Tablet PC" products support StepOver pads, Tablet PCs and pen pads of other manufacturers through a Wintab driver of the manufacturing company. To use the PDF plug-in in a Citrix environment, each user needs a licence for the PDF plug-in, as well as a Citrix Clients licence.
